Flying by the seat of your pants is a dangerous way to fly and an even more dangerous way to operate in relationships. When pilots rely on feelings they can end up crashing into the ground. That’s why they trust instruments when it’s cloudy or dark.
In the same way, men destroy their marriage by flying into it “by the seat of their pants.” Our feelings and emotions can convince us that something will make us happy when it will actually bring disaster. Lives have been ruined by men following their instincts.
What you need in your life is the same thing you need in your aircraft – a trusted source outside of yourself to alert you when you’re off course.
These “instruments” come in the form of mentors. Men whose lives you want to emulate; not drinking buddies in the same fog as you. Every man needs an older mentor. Someone with a healthy marriage, whose children are successful adults. A man who knows the terrain, and can help them navigate when times get dark.
Don’t let your pride crash you into a mountain. Seek out a mentor and meet with them regularly. Life’s too important to fly it alone.
